Cross-country Matrei
The great opportunities for cross-country skiing in the Virgen Valley is nothing to hide: Prägraten and Kals at the Großglockner have each 25 km of trails, Virgen has a further 21 km. The unique mountain and glacier landscape dominates the panorama of this area, above all tower the Großglockner (3,798 m) and the Großvenediger (3,674 m). Cross-country skiing in front of such an impressive view can only be enjoyed in the Virgen Valley! From Matrei you can access the sunny trails especially easily. At the Matrei Tauernhaus one of the most snow sure high altitude tracks can be found at 1,500 m altitude, and with 11 km length it demands the skiers to be in good shape. The high altitude track through the Mauer Valley at Prägraten is 9 km long, but also suitable for the less experienced. Those who make it up so high from the Virgen Valley, will experience a wonderful nature experience. Connoiseurs will recommend the round track on the high plateau of Kals at the Großgockner to Großdorf zum Taurer, which is known to be very beautiful. Fitness however is required for the skating trails in Prägraten at the Großvenediger. Cross-country fun under the stars can be enjoyed on the flood-lit pistes at Prägraten.
