Ski area Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei

With the lift pass „SkiHit”, you can use 186 kilometres of piste including ski routes in the eight ski areas Großglockner Resort, Brunnalm/Defereggental, Sillian/Hochpustertal, Kartitsch, Lienz, Obertilliach, Mölltaler Glacier as well as Ankogel (see ski region).

In Prägraten, you can find on the outskirts the "Bichl" chairlift, as well as 3 km of beginner pistes, which are ideal for the first turns in the snow.

The approx. 15 km distance of Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei (933 - 2,422 m), with its 44,6 km of pistes and 14 lifts, makes for biggest ski region in east Tyrol. The former 110 km of pistes head through the new direction of the piste lengths due to the drop line shrinking, but naturally, nothing on the pistes themselves was changed. Countless diverse runs for beginners and ambitious skiers invite you to let loose.

The gondola Goldried starts at Matrei and runs directly to the piste and the 6 person chairlift, Cimaross, takes you up to 2,621 m. Located at the mountain station is a children’s ski park with nursery conveyor belt and igloo. Snowboarders can go wild in the fun park, with slides and jumps!

Mother Nature along with a bit of help (snow cannons) make this ski area one of the most snow sure in the Alps. Those who have enough stamina should undoubtedly test the 11 km long valley run “Goldried” into Matrei. Pros will find challenging, black runs at Cimaross towards Matrei, as well as on the Blauspitze to Kals.

Après ski Prägraten

Après-ski in Virgen Valley is rather cosy. The day is rounded off sociably here in a bar or pub. Definitely worthwhile is a visit to the après-ski bar in Hotel Goldried or in "Fun" and "Tom's Pub", which are both located in Matrei near the chair lift valley station.

A toboggan party on one of the Virgen Valley's toboggan runs is lots of fun after skiing. Nature lovers should not miss a guided snow shoe hike with the Hohe Tauern National Park's keepers. The necessary sustenance after a long day's skiing can be found in countless huts and guesthouses, which entice you with regional specialities such as bacon or spinach dumplings.

Later in the evening, the BB Bar is the main attraction for revellers, with trendy music and mix-your-own cocktails. Lienz, which can be reached in less than an hour by car, offers some evening treats.
