Ski area Ischgl/Samnaun - Silvretta Arena
The Ischgl cross-border ski area, connected to Samnaun in Switzerland, is one of the largest ski regions in Austria. The longest run, “Eleven”, measures an impressive 11 km and leads from the highest point of the Greitspitze down to the village centre. On the expert run “14a”, where only experienced winter sports enthusiasts should venture to experience the race atmosphere, the gradient reaches up to 70 per cent. And the numerous deep-snow options and mogul runs are sure to thrill expert skiers. On the gentle slopes around the Idalp, however, beginners can also ease themselves into the winter fun. What’s more, the ski area around Ischgl is also a real highlight for the snowboarding scene. The most popular meeting spot is the halfpipe at the Idjoch chairlift.
Trends and lifestyle are therefore a top priority here, even on the slopes, as the large freestyle park, the “Ischgl Snowpark” above Idalp, suggests. If it ever gets too crowded on the Idalp, you can simply head over to the Swiss part of the ski resort. But be careful when shopping duty-free in Samnaun: ski-patrolling customs officers keep an eye out for backpacks that are a bit too bulging.
Après ski Ischgl/Samnaun - Silvretta Arena
In contrast, things are much quieter in the many cosy cafés, where you can meet up for a delicious hot chocolate or coffee after having fun on the slopes. The Silvretta-Center also hosts a wide range of cultural events, from vernissages and concerts to theatre and cinema performances. The 7 km long night toboggan run with a height difference of 950 metres is certainly a unique experience. Furthermore, Ischgl offers paragliding tandem flights with professional flight instructors, so that anyone brave enough can get a little closer to the dream of flying on a skiing holiday.
Ischgl's Silvretta Therme spa with its sauna village, solarium and massages is the perfect place for those looking to relax and unwind after an exciting day on the slopes.
The night-time ski boot ban in Ischgl, on the other hand, is curious and controversial! If guests are travelling around the houses at night, it is best to avoid wearing ski boots. This is because it is not permitted to walk around Ischgl in ski boots from 20:00 to 06:00 in the morning. This is to minimise noise pollution and avoid dangerous situations. Violation of the ban can result in considerable fines.
Snowpark Ischgl/Samnaun - Silvretta Arena: Ischgl Snowpark
The "Ischgl Snowpark" extends over two sections and also offers a funline with a few surprises.
Everyone can have fun in Park Area 1. From freestyle beginners and motivated experts to old snow park hands, everyone can enjoy themselves here and gain their first experience. With 16 elements, consisting of lots of boxes, fun tubes and roller jumps, the park is perfect for your first air-time moments or simply to try out a stylish 180 or 360.
For those who want to go even higher, the "Skills in progress" in Parkarea 2 comes into play. An airbag is available in the immediate vicinity for initial exercises to prepare for the new challenge of 15 tanks, jumps and boxes without falling and pain. At the park exit, the park base with music and deckchairs invites you to relax.
The Funline "Fun for the whole family" offers variety with waves, banked turns, speed boosters and jumps for anyone who gets bored of classic-style descents. This course is guaranteed to put a smile on the face of every winter sports enthusiast.
