Ski holidays Kötschach-Mauthen – paradise for Alpine fans!

Kötschach-Mauthen

Kötschach-Mauthen is situated beautifully, perfectly embedded in the natural surroundings between the Gailtal and the Karnisch Alps in southern Carinthia. The resort lies directly on the border of the Upper Gailtal and the Lower Lesachtal. This particular resorts comprises two resorts in one, and is a paradise for Alpine enthusiasts. The resort part Mauthen is even proud to call itself "mountaineer village". However, this area can also be called the "tastiest corner of Carinthia". Culinary traditions are held high here and the gastronomy selection is vast, reaching from sturdy local cuisine to gourmet restaurant. For winter sports fans this is a great place to be: a manageable family ski area directly in resort is available, but in the close vicinity you can also find top ski areas, such as Nassfeld. Many further sporty alternatives are also available, e.g. cross-country skiing or even lama trekking. A free valley shuttle and ski buses provide perfect infrastructure.

Gailtal

The Gail's source can be found in Eastern Tyrol. After approx. 120 km it flows into the Drau. In the same way the Gailtal extends from Tilliach in Eastern Tyrol to Villach in Carinthia. The fascinating landscape is dominated by contrast of wide, flat valleys and rough mountain sides. The valley is outlined by the mountain ranges of the Lienz Dolomites, the Gailtal Alps, the Karnish Alps and the Karanwanks. In the lower Gailtal one of the top 10 ski areas in Austria can be found, the Nassfeld-Hermagor.
