Ski holidays St. Lorenzen im Lesachtal - holiday away from the daily hustle and bustle!

St. Lorenzen im Lesachtal

In St. Lorenzen im Lesachtal (1,128 m) the clocks seem to be running slower than elsewhere. That may be due to the idyllic location in this high-alpine valley. If you spend your holiday here, you will be sure to avoid everyday stress and the hustle and bustle of town life. Originality, untouched nature and tranquillity is what you will find instead. In close proximity to the Austrian-Italian border, winter sports fans can fully savour the beautiful natural surroundings and winter landscape, be it with or without skis. You can opt to take part in guided ski tours or hiking tours to explore the mountains all around the area. After a long day of fresh air the local gastronomy can provide tasty traditional cuisine from regional farming to boot the energy household - hearty snacks, so called "Schlipfkrapfen" or the good Lesachtaler farmer's bread are only some of the specialities on offer.

Lesachtal

From Eastern Tyrol to Carynthia, between Tilliach and Villach, runs the Gailtal. The attractiveness of the valley lays no doubt in the untouched natural surroundings and the strong contrast of the low and vast valley basin with the rough mountain sides. The Lesachtal runs stretches over 20 km, parallel to the country boundaries of Austria and Italy, and is also part of the Carynthian Gailtal. It is surrounded by the Gailtal Alps in the North and South, and the last of the Lienz Dolomites in the North. This valley is known as the "most natural valley" in Europe and therefore is also a paradise of a kind for winter sports fans and hikers. Skiers and boarders only need approx. 55 minutes to reach the ski areas located just south of the Alps. The region provides a number of routes in avalanche-secured areas, which are ideal for ski tours and winter hikes. Culturally the valley is dominated mainly by farming tradition.
