Ski holidays Lauterbach – idyllic country spa resort!

Lauterbach

The district Lauterbach in the heart of the Black Forest, provides for a very special flair, especially in winter. The spa resort is embedded in the landscape, under a blanket of snow and surrounded by forests. The cosy village in this winter wonder landscape is especially pretty. Through the Lauterbach high valley runs not only borderline between the regions Baden and Württemberg, but also many winter hiking trails and cross-county trails lead through this forested area. Besides these, there are also extensive Nordic walking tracks and entertaining toboggan slopes to be found here.

Those who spend their holiday here around Christmas time, have the chance to experience a real local tradition: the Neapolitan manger scene, originating from the 18th century is one of the cultural highlight of the area. Every winter (during Advent) it is set up in the parish church St. Michael. Tradition and culture are held high here in Lauterbach. The resort is also the birth place of Wilhelm Kimmich, the most important artist of the typical "Schwarzwaldmalerei" (Black Forest painting). The "Gallerie Kimmich" has many of his artwork pieces on a permanent exhibition.

Those, who don't mind a day trip, will find some very attractive destinations in the area. Within approx. half an hour you can reach Villingen-Schwnningen, in 45 minuted you can get to Freudenstadt and about an hour's drive away is the city of Offenburg. The beautiful Lake Constance or the French-speaking Alsatia are close enough to managed in a day.

Black Forest

Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (Black Forest cherry cake), Cuckoo clocks and the "Bollenhut" (traditional women's hat) - all this is typical for the Black Forest region and enjoys world-wide recognition. 160 km long and approx. 60 km wide is the expanse of this central German mountain range, covering 11,400 m² in close proximity to Switzerland and France. The Black Forest, with its more than 70 peaks over 1,000 m altitude, is the highest of the German central mountain ranges. Sporty Alpine skiers, expectant cross-country goers, loves of good wine and cuisine and all those looking for some relaxation and pampering, are welcome to experience the benefits of the Black Forest.
