The lively resort of Meiringen is one of the most famous in Bernese Oberland. The main resort of the Hasli Valley is situated at approx. 600 m altitude at the foot of the Rothorn and allows easy access to the ski area by taking the Alpach-gondola, by foot or by taking the car. The village was largely made famous through the dessert "meringues" and the creator of Sherlock Holmes, who used the resort as a setting in one of his books.
