Ski area Petzen

The lift pass Petzen offers you winter sports enjoyment on a total of 15.5 km of pistes at the local mountain of Bleiburg: the Petzen. As it is the highest elevation of the region, it is also called "The Top of Southern Carinthia" by the locals. On the sides of the mountain, the pistes are connected with five tow lifts. A 6-person gondola takes you from the valley station (at 650 m) to the mountain station at an altitude of 1,700 m. The highest point (at 1,920 m) can be reached via another tow lift. From the top, you have a great panoramic view over the mountains and lakes of Carinthia and you are even able to see the mountains of Glockner and Koralpe. Below the tow lift at the summit lies a sizeable freestyle area, which is one of the highlights of the ski area. Several ski huts are close to the freestyle area and welcome you to take a break in a comfortable environment.

In the lower part of the ski area you, will find Petzi's Kinderland (children's piste) close to the valley station, which encourages a playful way of learning how to ski on shallow slopes. The upper part mainly offers medium difficulty and wide pistes to enjoy. Thanks to modern snow-making facilities, almost all parts of the ski area can be provided with artificial snow. There is another special winter sports highlight for your return to the valley station: the 12 km long valley run. The red piste can also be used as a 4 km long ski route after having taken about half of the piste.

Après ski Bleiburg

Bleiburg offers various restaurants, guest houses and cafés, which invite you to take a break in a cosy environment during the day and enjoy a vivid night life in the evening. The bar-café "I Fratelli" is definitely worth a visit as several kinds of beers are served and various exhibitions, as well as events are organised. Locals and visitors alike are drawn to the dance bar, "Stefanhof", for some late night dancing sessions, which is located outside of the town centre.

If you would like to enjoy some nature after skiing, there are several recreational activities in the surrounding area. In the vicinity of Petzen, you will find beautiful hiking trails and if you bring a toboggan, you can take a detour to the 2.5 km toboggan run in Bleiburg's neighbouring town Feistritz ob Bleiburg. Take your ice skates for a spin in Bleiburg at the Bründlteich or at the Pirkdorfersee (at a distance of approx. 4 km). There is also a nice path that leads up to the Petzen summit for snow shoe and regular hikers. One thing is certain: relaxation in nature and recreational fun are easily combined in Bleiburg and the surrounding area.

A special highlight in the time before Christmas is the highest-lying Christmas market of Austria at an altitude of 1,700 m. It opens Saturdays on the Advent weekends on the mountain Petzen.

Snowpark: Freestyle Area Petzen Bleiburg

In the upper part of the ski area, the diverse Freestyle Area Petzen is prepared in winter. It can be reached via the Siebenhütten lift and offers three lines on 200 m with seven elements respectively - rails, boxes and kickers. For the little ones who don't dare to take on the big obstacles yet, there is a wave piste right next to the freestyle area. With the extension of the jib area, the snow park is now considered one of the best and biggest parks in Carinthia. Right next to the park, you will find the JUFA-Chill-Area with music and loungers for a relaxing break.
