Ski holidays Faistenau – a cross-country skiing village with views of three lakes!

Faistenau

Just 20 km east of Salzburg lies the small village of Faistenau, situated on a sunny high plateau in the Osterhorn range. Nestled in the picturesque Salzkammergut region, holidaymakers here enjoy plenty of sunshine and snow. The residents of Faistenau are particularly proud of their thousand-year-old lime tree, which stands in the picturesque village square at the heart of the village. The ancient tree is one of 13 "places of happiness" in the Fuschlsee region, where you can find a great deal of peace, serenity and, ultimately, bliss.

Attractive destinations in the immediate vicinity include Fuschlsee and Hintersee. For active guests, a snowshoe trail leads up to the Schafbachalm, which is also a fairy-tale trail for children. The fairy tale was specially devised and artistically brought to life by pupils from Faistenau Primary School.

With a snow tubing run, tobogganing, cross-country skiing and ice skating, Faistenau offers a truly extensive range of leisure activities. A winter hike to the alpine hut at the Sausteigalm on the Zwölferhorn (1,521 m) is well worth the effort. From up here, the famous "Dreiseenblick" view opens up, taking in the Wolfgangsee, Krotensee and Mondsee.

Salzkammergut

The holiday region of Salzkammergut lies on the northern Alpine border and is situated in northern Austria, on the border to Steiermark and near Salzburg. Salkammergut extends from the Wolfgangsee, over the Almtal and the Dachstein glacier, and all the way to the eastern edge of the city of Salzburg. With its gorgeous location in the Alpine foothills and on the edge of the northern Limestone Alps, the landscape harbours 76 lakes of various sizes, such as the Wolfgangsee, Mondsee, Attersee, and the Traunsee. Innumerable mountains, such as the Dachstein, Traunstein, and the Höllengebirge, create a dreamy, wintery panoramic view.
