Ski holidays Goldegg - Quiet sunny plateau in the Pongau!

Goldegg im Pongau

In the idyllic mountain nature of the Pongau, the mountain village of Goldegg lies on a sunny plateau at 820 m above sea level. Even if traffic passes through the lower-lying valley, so it is wonderfully quiet up here.

Goldegg Castle sits enthroned on a hill above the village and watches over the town. The old fortified castle is a building worth seeing from the 14th century and one of the cultural highlights of the region. Although there are no guided tours of the halls, chambers and local history museum in winter, the mere presence of the historic bulwark lends the village of Goldegg a historically traditional ambience. Just a few metres outside the walls is the Goldegg Moorsee, an idyllic area that is open for ice skating and ice hockey games when temperatures are low enough. Especially during Advent, Goldegg is transformed into a particularly cosy holiday resort with its quaint Christmas market and the wonderfully illuminated castle. All around, the enchanting mountains of the Salzburger Land invite you to go skiing, winter hiking and tobogganing.

Pongau

The district of Pongau borders the provinces of Carinthia, Styria and Upper Austria and is traversed by the impressive Salzach Valley. Surrounded by the mountain ranges of the Hochkönig (2,941 m) and the Hohe Tauern (3,798 m), the region impresses visitors with the dreamlike and romantic atmosphere of its quaint villages and delights alpine winter sports fans with its excellent ski resorts. The latter can see for themselves why St. Johann has such a first-class reputation as one of the most important entry points to the huge "Ski amadé" ski world. A highlight of the massive mountain world is the legendary "Liechtenstein Gorge". Also well worth seeing is the Hohe Tauern National Park in the south of the region – one of the most beautiful natural worlds in Europe. It goes without saying that the sensational surroundings can be explored on a snowshoe hike or on one of the numerous cross-country skiing trails.
