Location

The extraordinary Schneedorf is Austria’s first igloo village! It is situated at an altitude of approx. 2,000 metres in the heart of the Hochoetz-Ochsengarten ski area and can only be reached by gondola. From the top station of the Acherkogelbahn, it’s about a 25-minute walk to the snow village. Ski-in and ski-out are easily possible here.

Facilities

The impressive snow village consists of several igloos and is rebuilt every year from ice and snow. There is a communal igloo, a reception area and a snow bar. Parking spaces are available for a fee at the valley station of the Acherkogelbahn (“Schneedorf parking space”, see information on site).

Accommodation is in two-person igloos. The difference lies in the materials used for the igloos (snow vs. “Makrolon”) and in whether you spend the night in the snow (Candlelight) or under the “open sky” (Kristall) and sleeping in a sleeping bag (Candlelight) versus sleeping on a thermal mat and under down duvets (Kristall). Heated toilet facilities (washbasin and toilet, no shower) are located next to the main igloo.

The igloos made of snow and ice (Candlelight) are equipped with:

• Snow beds with thermal mattresses, sleeping mats and sheepskins
• single or double sleeping bag (rated to -40 degrees)

The Makrolon igloos (Kristall) are equipped with:

• snow beds with thermal mattresses, sleeping mats and sheepskins
• down duvets and thermal blankets

To get there, take the Acherkogelbahn (for a fee), so that you arrive on time at 4.15 pm at the meeting point at the Panorama Restaurant at the Acherkogelbahn mountain station in Hochoetz (in front of the main entrance by the ‘Schneedorf’ sign). This is followed by a group walk to the Schneedorf, approx. 25 minutes’ walk. Your luggage will be transported by snowmobile (no passenger transport available).

Entertainment

The guides will be organising a short programme on site, which includes a torch-lit hike and a game of ‘Rutschblattln’n’.

Board

Half-board is included in the price of the trip. This includes a welcome drink (hot chocolate, tea or mulled wine), a bottle of sparkling wine and a small platter of cold starters in the igloo. Dinner (cheese fondue) is served in the communal igloo. The following morning, a breakfast buffet is included for you at the Balbachalm.
As an alternative to the cheese fondue, you can also pre-order a ‘Tyrolean snack platter’ for an additional charge (approx. €18 per person; must be pre-ordered at least one week before arrival). Vegan or gluten-free meals are also available for an additional charge and must be pre-ordered.

Important notes

• Over-occupancy resulting from babies: not possible
• This accommodation is not wheelchair-accessible.
• Please note that the Schneedorf can only be reached from Oetz via the Acherkogelbahn (last ascent at approx. 16:00)! Subsequently an approx. 25-minute walk is required from the mountain station to the Schneedorf. If you miss the last ascent, there is no further way to reach the Schneedorf.
• The cost of the gondola ride up on arrival and down on departure is not included and must be paid for by guests themselves on site.
• Remember to bring warm clothing and sturdy footwear!
• EC card payments are not accepted in the Schneedorf (cash only).
