A large network of around 70 km of signposted cross-country ski trails and ski hiking trails extends across the municipal area of Masserberg.Two cross-country ski trails are available directly in the village. One runs 4.5 km through the Masserberg district, the second runs 5 km from the Schnett district towards Masserberg. A great offer for cross-country skiing beginners is the cross-country skiing garden in Masserberg. Here, the various techniques are explained on learning boards and can be practised immediately. For a longer learning session, the park is lit every Tuesday and Thursday from 17:00.

On the famous Rennsteig alone, there are about 165 kilometres of classic-style cross-country trails.The long-distance ski trail connects all cross-country skiing areas in the region over this length, creating a huge range of trails of varying degrees of difficulty.
