Ski holidays Castione della Presolana – rural charm in a popular ski area!

Castione della Presolana

About an hour's drive north of the provincial capital Bergamo, you will find a wild and romantic gem: Castione della Presolana. Approximately 3,500 people live in a picturesque landscape of Alpine pastures and forested hills at the foot of rugged Pizzo della Presolana (2,521 m) on an altitude of 986 m. The ski area Presolana-Monte Pora nearby Castione is one of the most important winter sports centres of Lombardy. 28 km of piste stretch over two ski mountains, and there are diverse opportunities for excursions in the extraordinary mountain landscape.

The resort itself has kept its rural charm thanks to its traditional architecture. The destrict Bratto-Dorga also has numerous art nouveau villas. Simultaneously, the resort scores with a modern infrastructure including shops, public means of transportation and leisure time activities like winter hiking, cross-country skiing and snow mobile rides. Approx. 20 km south of Castione is the lake Lake d'Iseo, the fourth largest lake in Italy that offers a picturesque backdrop for cosy afternoons at the lake café or a joyride along its shore.

The province of Bergamo is characterised by its picturesque mountain landscape in East Lombardy: in the North you'll have the distinctive and gorgeous backdrop of the Dolomites, in the South the Bergamask Alps (ital. Alpi Orobie) right up to the lowlands of Bergamo. The foothills of the 80 km mountain range Alpi Orobie all the way to the province's capital Bergamo. The splendid metropolis has approx. 120,000 inhabitants and entices visitors with many landmarks such as the upper city with medieval bastions and the Cathedral of Bergamo. Another popular holiday resort in the region is lake Lago d'Iseo south of Monte Pora mountain.

Winter sports fans will find their spot in the region mainly in the alpine high valley Seriana and Brembana that follow the riverbeds of Serio and Brembo. At the edge of Presolana (2,521 m) is one of the largest ski areas in the region, Presolana-Monte Pora. Thanks to its spectacular chalk walls, Presolana is called the "Queen of Alpi Orobie". In the province of Bergamo, winter sports fans can look forward to cosy skiing fun with a fantastic panorama.
