It was not until the end of the 1960s that eleven young men in Obereggen (1,550 m), a mountain village in the heart of the Dolomites, had the courage to plan a ski lift. This was a revolution in the sleepy village with a single 20-bed establishment. Today, a popular winter sports destination has emerged at the foot of the Latemar. The Obereggen ski area now hosts a traditional European Cup race every year and, following its merger with Pampeago and Predazzo, is part of the Latemar Ski Centre. Nevertheless, Obereggen has retained the charm of a small and cosy mountain village.

As the highest village in the Eggental valley, guests have a unique panoramic view of the surrounding peaks of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site Latemar, the Weißhorn and Schwarzhorn. The people of Obereggen appreciate this location. The village is one of the "Pearls of the Alps". Under this title, 28 holiday regions in the Alps have joined forces to promote environmentally friendly mobility solutions, climate protection and the preservation of unspoilt nature.

Val d’Ega
