Ski area Schwemmalm
With the "Schwemmalm" lift pass, you can ski on approx. 27 km of pistes in total, reaching up to an altitude of 2,625 metres. From the highest point in the ski area, you can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of the surrounding 3,000 peaks of the Ortler massif. With several blue, predominantly red and also some black pistes, the area is suitable for all ability levels. You can expect wide pistes and a great panoramic view over the valley and the lake.
Young skiers can learn their first turns in the ski school and on the practice lift, while the little ones are looked after all day in the "Bärenhöhle" ski kindergarten. But the ski area is not only attractive for families. The surrounding terrain is a dream for ski tourers and deep-snow skiers after a good snowfall. The Schwemmalm is still an insider tip, so there are no queues at the lifts or huts. At the valley station, there is a 500 metre-long snow run where you can enjoy a fun toboggan ride after the descent.

Rules of conduct on ski pistes in Italy
To ensure safety on the ski slopes in Italy, stricter safety regulations have been in force since 2022. In order to use the ski areas, everyone must have liability insurance that covers damage to third parties. It will also be possible to take out this insurance on site for individual days. Drunken skiing is prohibited and punishable by heavy fines, with a maximum of 0.5 mg of alcohol per litre of blood. To reduce the risk of injury, helmets are also compulsory for all minors when skiing, snowboarding or tobogganing.
Après ski Schwemmalm
Skiers come together for après ski in St. Walburg, especially in the ski area. At the mountain station of the Breiteben chair lift, the Bockstodl invites you to après ski and on the Schwemmalm on the Dreimandl piste, the après ski atmosphere rises from midday. After an exciting day on the piste, ski enthusiasts can also enjoy the après ski flair in the Seawies and M13 bars. In addition to drinking and partying, après ski in Val d'Ultimo also means culinary enjoyment. Various restaurants in the ski area and around the lake offer typical South Tyrolean delicacies.
After a day of skiing, Val d'Ultimo also invites you to enjoy a wide range of winter activities. Around the Schwemmalm there are various trails for snowshoers, ski tourers and hikers. Many of the numerous summer hiking trails in Val d'Ultimo are also accessible in winter, meaning that with the right footwear, almost all of the surrounding peaks can be climbed. The snowshoe trails are certainly one of the highlights in the Ultental Valley. Several fantastic routes of 1.5 to 3 hours' walking time lead around Schwemmalm, Steinrast and Breiteben.
For a special sporting kicker, there is also the option of paragliding or riding the famous Haflinger horses from the Merano region.
The Schwemmalm is also ideal for tobogganing. There is an approx. 500 metre long snow run here, where children can whizz down without a care in the world. The Moscha natural toboggan run, on the other hand, is a real competition run, which is not for amateurs with a decline of over 22 per cent and an icy channel. You whizz down from 1,723 metres to 1,580 metres at high speed and should wear gloves and a helmet. Right next door in Kuppelwies, you can also go Bavarian curling or ice skating.
The spa town of Merano, the centre of the Merano region, is well worth a day trip. Here you will also find the Merano Thermal Baths, a large wellness oasis enclosed in a modern building made of steel, glass and wood. It is the only thermal spa in South Tyrol and has 13 indoor pools and a large sauna and spa area.

Snowpark Schwemmalm: Merano 2000
Unfortunately, there is no snowpark in the Schwemmalm ski area. But the next opportunity for jibbing and shredding is not far away: the "Merano 2000" snowpark is located near the spa town of Merano in the ski area of the same name. The jumps, slides and tables there are divided into two areas: Beginners can practise on the upper easy line, while the lower area has a medium line for advanced riders with two fat jumps as highlights. Right next to it, a chill-out zone offers the opportunity to relax after the lines and chat to other freestylers about the latest trends on the scene. The park is located on the St. Oswald piste right next to the Piffing chair lift.
