Ski holidays Cerklje na Gorenjskem - winter holiday in the Slovenian Alps!

Cerklje na Gorenjskem

The Slovenian community Cerklje na Gorenjskem is situated very idyllic on 391 m above the sea level at the foot of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, but only in 4 km distance from the Brnik international airport Brnik. The rural community offers an ideal connection and therefore makes a short holiday trip in the Slovenian Alps very convenient.

Cerklje na Gorenjskem attracts travellers not only because of the pleasant and short journey, but also because of the extensive range of leisure activities nearby. First of all, there is the Krvavec ski resort, which is located very close to the village and offers 30 kilometres of pistes. Besides, the Slovenian capital Ljubljana is just 30 minutes away by car. The city is known for many historical and enchanting sights and is the perfect place for a day trip.

But even in the village itself, you do not have to look far for historical buildings: Amoung other things, there is S because there are various spots in the community itself, which wait for you to get explored: Among other things the castle Strmol castle, one of the oldest castles in Slovenia, which is exceptionally well preserved. The landscape around Cerklje na Gorenjskem is also absolutely worth seeing, as roughly half of the community consists of forests, fields and rivers - and of course do not forget the snow-covered Alps in the background!

Upper Sava Valley

The Slovenian Upper Sava Valley lies in the northwesternmost region of the country and is therefore near the border triangle of Italy and Austria. When facing north, you can expect to find dreamy views of the Karawanks, whereas to the south, you'll have views of the Julian Alps.

Winters are cold in the Upper Sava Valley, leaving nothing to stand in the way of winter sports in the Slovenian Alps. That being said, the slopes on the Karanwanks side enjoy excellent sunshine, which allows for a snowy and sunny experience on the piste.

Winter sports fans in the Upper Sava Valley know to appreciate the ski region of Gorenjska (Upper Carniola), which is composed of 18 municipalities and 17 larger and smaller ski areas. With 30 km of piste, Krvavec is the largest ski area followed by Kobla (23 km of piste), Vogel (22 km of piste) and Kranjska Gora (20 km of piste). The remaining 13 ski areas are also quite manageable and are therefore especially designed for families and beginners.

Even with the Upper Sava Valley being quite idyllic and quiet, you can still expect to find large, lively cities in the area worth visiting. A visit to the city of Kranj, for example, with its approx. 200,000 residents, is definitely worth it - and let's not forget Slovenia's dreamy capital of Ljubljana!
