Cheap ski holidays Alleghe – popular winter sports resort by the Monte Civetta!

Alleghe is a peaceful municipality at the foot of the Monte Civetta (3,220 m) in the province of Belluno. The winter sports resort, with around 1,200 residents is located around 37 km to the south of Cortina d'Ampezzo on the bank of the Lago di Alleghe. Thanks to its many tourist attractions, Alleghe is one of the most popular winter sports resorts in the Belluno Dolomites.

The houses in the villages are nestled into gently inclining and forest-covered mountainside, with the mighty Marmolada towering to the west, the highest of all the Dolomite mountains. In Alleghe, a well-know attraction amongst mountain lovers is the Parete delle pareti ("wall of the walls") on the northern side of the Monte Civetta. It is one of the largest vertical areas of the Dolomites and is dreaded by mountaineers. The landscape surrounding Alleghe, a mountain-lake panorama, is simply fantastic and very restful.

As early as the 1980s Alleghe has been the most significant winter sport resort in the region. Far from mass tourism, the resort is established as a very hospitable holiday destination, which offers traditional values, regional specialities and varied mountain sport activities in front of a unique backdrop. For winter sports fans, direct access to the Civetta area is located in Alleghe, the largest ski area in Veneto with a total of 80 km of piste.

Alleghe is also well-known for its successful ice hockey team, which is the reason why the resort offers a modern ice-sport hall with a skating rink.

The Civetta region is located in the fascinating mountain landscape of the Belluno Dolomites. The landscape is characterised by the highest peak of the Dolomites, the Marmolada (3,343 m), and other impressive mountains like the Monte Pelmo, but also through woodland and meadows, as well as traditional villages. Three wonderful valleys are part of the region: the Val di Zoldo, where the famous Italian ice cream "Gelato artigianale" originated from, the Val Fiorentina, with its ski resort Selva die Cadore, as well as the Val Cordevole, with its well-known holiday resort of Alleghe.

The region is named after its most prominent summit, the Civetta (Italian for owl). With a height of 3,220 m, it is one of the highest mountains in the Dolomites and is part of the mighty Civetta-Moiazza group in the north east of the Belluno province. The largest ski area in Veneto is located on Civetta: Ski Civetta. It comprises 80 km of pistes of all levels of difficulty and belongs to the Dolomiti Superski lift network. Around the mountain there are four picturesque mountain villages, each of which allowing for access to the ski area: Alleghe, Selva di Cadore, Zoldo and Palafavera.

On the north-west side in the Cordevole valley, the centre of tourism is concentrated in the main resort of Alleghe, which lies next to a idyllic mountain lake. Alleghe's neighbour and another important resort for skiing in Civetta is Selva di Cadore, located at an altitude of 1,317 m. A chair lift goes from there up into the ski area. On the other side of the mountain group, there's the Val di Zoldo with the municipality of Zoldo. From the Zoldo Alto and Palafavera resorts, access to the ski area is also possible.
