Haunold - 3 Zinnen Dolomites Ski area

The "3 Zinnen Dolomites" lift pass gives you access to around 115 kilometres of slopes. The 3 Zinnen Dolomites region stretches between the towns of Sesto, San Candido, Dobbiaco, Niederdorf and Prags. It comprises several smaller, cosy ski areas offering an impressive variety of experiences. Gentle slopes provide ideal conditions for families and beginners, whilst varied runs are suitable for both leisure skiers and advanced skiers. Challenging runs such as the Raut and the famous Holzriese pose a challenge even for experts – the latter, with a gradient of 71 per cent, is one of the steepest runs in Italy.

The local ski area around San Candido offers around 12.6 km of slopes covering all levels of difficulty. Thanks to its manageable size, the family-friendly valley run and the option of night skiing, it is particularly well-suited to families and leisure skiers.

The widest range of runs is found in the ski area around Helm, Stiergarten, Rotwand and the Kreuzberg Pass, with around 86 kilometres of slopes. Below the imposing Rotwandspitze, particularly challenging runs await, whilst the Rotwandwiesen feature a race course complete with timekeeping. At certain times of the season, you can start your day at 07:30 on perfectly groomed slopes.

Another highlight of the ski resort is the Reinhold Messner House. It is a unique venue where the exhibition dedicated to mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner recounts, in every detail, the history, experience and vision of a true legend of alpinism.

The Rienz-Toblach (Dobbiaco) ski area boasts a total of 3.9 km of slopes at altitudes ranging from 1,200 to 1,410 metres. Furthermore, the smaller ski areas of Braies and Padola – Ski Area Comelico – form part of the network.

Rules of conduct on ski pistes in Italy

To use the ski areas, you must have valid liability insurance that covers damage or injury to third parties. This can also be taken out on site for individual days. Skiing while intoxicated (0.5 per mille or higher BAC) is prohibited and is punishable by heavy fines. To reduce the risk of injury, wearing a helmet is compulsory for everyone (regardless of age, on all ski runs, in snow parks and on toboggan runs). Anyone who does not comply with the helmet requirement will be fined or banned from the slopes.

Night skiing Haunold - 3 Zinnen Dolomites

With the lift pass, it is possible to ski into the night in the 3 Zinnen Dolomites ski area. In San Candido, the piste on Monte Baranci is open for night skiing every Tuesday and Friday. Night skiers can make a few night-time turns on around 3 kilometres of piste between 19:00 and 22:00. Night tobogganing is also possible on the Haunold. If you need a little refreshment after night skiing, you can stop off at the Riese-Haunold-Hütte for a meal with regional specialities and drinks.

Snowpark Haunold - 3 Zinnen Dolomites: Family Fun Slopes

In the 3 Zinnen Dolomites ski area near Sesto, there are Family Fun Slopes on the Croda Rossa and Monte Elmo mountains, which combine elements of a snow park with a family-friendly character. These fun slopes focus on variety: steep turns, waves, snow tunnels, bridges and a spiral "snail" provide fun, games and small challenges - ideal for families and recreational skiers who already have some experience but are not looking for big freestyle features such as half-pipes or big kickers.

There is a Kids Ski Cross course in the Haunold local ski area and the Shaka Snowpark in Rienz - however, the two facilities are not directly connected via the pistes.
