The "Eisacktal" (Valle Isarco) lift pass offers skiing fun and variety in Brixen-Plose and Gitschberg-Jochtal across a total of 98 kilometres of slopes. Meransen lies at an altitude of over 1,400 metres, right next to the Gitschberg-Jochtal ski area, where there are almost 55 kilometres of slopes and 16 lifts to explore. The lift network comprises the Gitschberg ski area (2,510 m) and the Jochtal (up to 2,100 m) near Vals. Both are easily accessible from Meransen by gondola or a connecting cable car. In Meransen, gentle practice slopes await children and beginners, whilst further up the mountain there are several red and one black run for advanced skiers. On the sunny summit of the Gitsch, there is also one of three viewing platforms, from which you can enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of over 500 peaks, stretching from the Dolomites to the Zillertal, Stubai and Ötztal Alps. The other two, no less spectacular, panoramic viewpoints are located at Steinermandl and Astjoch. Via the connection with the Gaisjoch and Schillingbahn lifts, you can cross over to Vals, where the Hinterberg and the family-friendly Jochtal await. There are a total of around 22 km of slopes and seven lifts here, including slopes suitable for beginners, as well as several red and a few black runs. The slopes in both parts of the ski area are varied, beautifully wide and easy to navigate.

There are several children’s areas for the little ones, most notably in Meransen village at the Zwergele Winterwelt. Here, there are three magic carpets, a tubing run, slides and a swing for children of all ages. There is also a floodlit slope for classic night skiing, and in Vals, snowboarders can enjoy themselves in the fun park. An all-round successful, family-friendly ski resort!

Upgrading to the “Dolomiti Superski” lift pass also gives you the opportunity to ski across 12 ski resorts covering a total of 1,200 kilometres of slopes (see ski region).

Rules of conduct on ski pistes in Italy

To use the ski areas, you must have valid liability insurance that covers damage or injury to third parties. This can also be taken out on site for individual days. Skiing while intoxicated (0.5 per mille or higher BAC) is prohibited and is punishable by heavy fines. To reduce the risk of injury, wearing a helmet is compulsory for everyone (regardless of age, on all ski runs, in snow parks and on toboggan runs). Anyone who does not comply with the helmet requirement will be fined or banned from the slopes.

Après ski skiarea_name

The classic après-ski scene in Meransen takes place at the Schirmbar in the ski resort. The "Igloo" at the valley station in Meransen is a great place to head for a bit of fun after the last lift ride. Otherwise, life in this idyllic village tends to be rather quiet. The fairytale winter landscape invites you to go for winter walks and snowshoe hikes along groomed trails. Those who fancy a spin on the ice will find an artificial ice rink in Meransen, as well as other lovely skating rinks in Vals, Pfunders and Weitental. For tobogganing enthusiasts, there is a child-friendly 1.5 km run at the Gitschberg midway station in the ski area, leading down to the car park at the valley station. There are several cosy huts to choose from for a stop for refreshments. After a long day on the mountain, warm up with punch and mulled wine and enjoy South Tyrolean fare.

As well as peaceful winter activities, the region also offers adrenaline-pumping adventures. For those who’d like to see the Eisack Valley from above, there’s the option of paragliding, for example. The nearby Pfunderertal is also renowned for its fantastic opportunities for waterfall climbing. A qualified mountain guide will show you how to climb the majestic, sometimes sheer ice pillars.

Snowpark skiarea_name: F-Tech Snowpark Jochtal

In the Gitschberg-Jochtal ski resort, a fully-fledged snow park awaits on the Hinterberg: the F-Tech Snowpark Jochtal features an Easy, a Medium and a Pro line. Shredders and daredevils can choose their line from a variety of rails, slides and boxes, as well as four tables with small and medium-sized features. There is a special Woody Line for children. This junior course winds through the forest and is equipped with various wooden elements designed to test concentration and agility.
